Atlungstad Golf unfolds along the gentle slopes that fall toward the glassy expanse of Lake Mjøsa, where the first nine holes were carved into the shoreline in 2006 and the full eighteen opened a year later. Dave Thomas’s design follows the natural undulations of the cultural landscape, threading fairways between stands of birch and pine, skirting old farmsteads and the historic Atlungstad Brenneri. The opening holes greet you with wide, forgiving landing zones that soon give way to tighter, tree‑lined corridors where a well‑placed approach is rewarded with views of the lake’s silver ripple catching the low Nordic light. The course’s character is shaped by the wind that sweeps off Mjøsa, testing club selection on the exposed back nine, while subtle bunkers and modest water hazards demand precision rather than brute force. Walking the fairways feels like a quiet trek through a living museum of Norwegian countryside — each step accompanied by the scent of damp earth
